Suzuki GSXR 1000 K6 Build History
After the theft of my GSXR 1000 ZK4 , the insurance payout was destined to be spent on yet another GSXR, I got more dough than I was expecting from the insurance ( there's something you don't hear very often ! ) and realised that if I bought carefully I may be lucky enough to upgrade to a K5 ! . Much searching ensued , unfortunately with the money I had , I soon realised that I was looking at the bottom end of the market , but I persevered and after traveling the length & breath of the country looking at what other people thought were 'mint' bikes I eventually found one that was ! .
I Spotted the above advert on the bike trader , the day it appeared on line. It was a UK K6 model with just 2400 miles on the clock , and very cheap ! It turns out that the chap was a Dutch guy , an airline pilot for easy jet. He was based in the UK , and had recently passed his 'super pilot license' or something , which meant he could fly the big long haul jumbo's . His bosses were relocating him to Dubai and he had to move in just 2 weeks !. After a HPI check , the bike was clear , and I'd got myself a bargain ! The K6 is a completely different animal to my old K4 , the riding position , the handling , the brakes and the performance are all noticeably superior - its great ! Of course , me being me - it wasn't long before I started to trick it up , one of the first additions had to be a decent end can. After all , a bike has to sound like a bike eh ? The exup valve in the exhaust is built into the link pipe with the silencer , and all the aftermarket cans available junk the valve. I really didn't want to do this - for a start I didn't want to lose all that low down torque ( that made it nice an grunty like my oil cooled gixxers ) for the sake of just a couple of horsepower at peak rpm. Losing the valve also means having the 'frig' the bikes ecu , again - something that I wasn't overly keen on . Luckily Suzuki have come to the rescue with a Titanium Tri-Oval developed in conjunction with Yoshimura. It comes complete with a new exup valve assy incorporated into the one piece titanium link pipe and end can , and once the riveted in baffle is removed from the tail pipe - it has a huge bore and a great sound ! I've also fitted some really cool looking carbon fibre parts , including some frame covers , swingarm covers ,lower tank panels , hugger , front mudguard and a few other carbon bits and pieces . As is my way - I'll probably continue tricking the K6 up with a few other choice pieces until I get the project bike finished and on the road
